The Bluebird of Happiness is created from a special production art glass that includes transparent true blue with random streaks of opaque cyan blue/green. Accents are in light cyan, red, black and aventurine blue. Aventurine glass imitates the mineral of the same name. It includes flakes that give it sparkle. Each bird is unique. Display all year round. Approximate size: 5"w x 2.5"h x 3/8"d.

Incidental Bird Fact:
The history of the Bluebird of Happiness can be found in many cultures and dates back thousands of years. One of the oldest references is from pre-modern China during the Shang dynasty (1766-1122 BC). The Native American Cochiti, Navajo and O'odham all mention the bluebird, giving it mythological or literary significance. European folklore alludes to the idiom as well. Russian fairy tales, French novels and British plays have all incorporated the bird. And who can forget the final lyrics from the Arlen/Harburg 1938 song in the classic movie, The Wizard of Oz:

"Somewhere, over the rainbow, bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow,
Why then, oh why, can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why, can't I?"

- All art work is handmade by Robert Wiener in the DC Art Glass Studio. Kilnforming is a method of shaping glass in a kiln using heat and gravity. Techniques used by the artist include fusing, slumping, casting, printmaking and coldworking. It is common of kilnformed glass to have slight color shifts and small "champagne" bubbles.
