Aventurine Blue Streak Songbird's body is created from a clear art glass with a streak of aventurine blue. Accents are in white, black, purple and aventurine blue. Aventurine glass imitates the mineral of the same name. It includes flakes that give it sparkle. Each bird is unique. Display all year round. Approximate size: 5"w x 2.5"h x 3/8"d.
Incidental Bird Fact:
Unlike many other songbirds, male bluebirds barely open their beaks when they sing. When trying to attract a mate, a male may sing as many as 1,000 songs an hour. During the incubating process they stop singing.
- All art work is handmade by Robert Wiener in the DC Art Glass Studio. Kilnforming is a method of shaping glass in a kiln using heat and gravity. Techniques used by the artist include fusing, slumping, casting, printmaking and coldworking. It is common of kilnformed glass to have slight color shifts and small "champagne" bubbles.
