Steel Blue Songbird

Steel Blue's body is created from a opaque steel blue art glass. Opaque steel blue has special characteristics that, when exposed to air and fired to temperatures between 1250F - 1400F, it transforms from blue to a silver-gray metallic color. Accents are in opaque white, red, black, transparent steel blue and purple. Display all year round. Approximate size: 5"w x 2.5"h x 3/8"d.

Incidental Bird Fact:
Bluebirds are territorial, building their nests in cavities to protect their young. Bluebird eggs are usually pale blue.

- All art work is handmade by Robert Wiener in the DC Art Glass Studio. Kilnforming is a method of shaping glass in a kiln using heat and gravity. Techniques used by the artist include fusing, slumping, casting, printmaking and coldworking. It is common of kilnformed glass to have slight color shifts and small "champagne" bubbles.
