Two ornaments in one! This festive fused glass bauble is deceptively complex as it requires multiple kiln firings. The base is created from many tiny bits of transparent turquoise glass. An opaque dense white glass snowflake is made seperately and then "tack" fused to the base. The added design element contributes to a three-dimensional appearance. This ornament celebrates the winter season and can be hung just by itself or in a grouping. Mix & match with other Modern Classic Ornament styles.
Ornament Tidbits:
In the late 19th century, F.W. Woolworth introduced America to the holiday glass ornament concept first developed in Lauscha, Germany. The idea was a great success as sales reached over $25 million per year.
All art work is handmade by Robert Wiener in the DC Art Glass Studio. Kilnforming is a method of shaping glass in a kiln using heat and gravity. Techniques used by the artist include fusing, slumping, casting, printmaking and coldworking. It is common of kilnformed glass to have slight color shifts and small "champagne" bubbles. May contain sharp edges. Handle with care.
